East Devon AONB/National Landscape

Higher Wiscombe is located right at very centre of The East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). In December 2023 all AONB’s were retitled National Landscapes. The landscape is characterised by varied wooded combes, vast areas of heathland, fertile river valleys and breathtaking cliffs or hilltops. We are within walking distance of the East Devon Way, a forty-mile inland walking route from Exmouth to Lyme Regis, taking in the heaths, pebblebeds, valleys and woodland. In 2023 we celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of the East Devon AONB.

It also includes the East Devon section of the Jurassic Coast – England’s first natural World Heritage Site – and is a living, working landscape shaped by many centuries of farming activity.

Alistair is the current Chair of the East Devon AONB/National Landscape and we are also Ambassadors for the AONB/National Landscape and are happy to answer any questions that you may have, or to point you in the right direction to get the very best from your stay here.
