The history: Regional awards beckoned and in 2006 we won the best Holiday Cottage in the South West Award from South West Tourism, which meant we were entered into the National Visit England competition the next year, where in 2007 we won the National Award for the Best Holiday Cottages in England from Visit England at the ‘Tourism Oscars’.
In 2006, we received an award by the CLA for the Sustainable Conversion of the farm buildings. In 2007, we also were runner up as the most Sustainable Tourism Business in the South West from South West.
Two other opportunities came up for us to do a more specific audit of our business processes and in 2010 Higher Wiscombe was the first dedicated holiday cottage business to be awarded the British Quality Foundation marque after eighteen months of courses, exams and assessments.
In both 2012 and 2014 we were finalists in the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) Goldstar Awards as one the greenest tourism businesses in the UK and received our own Goldstar Award for the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Green Tourism.
In 2015, we entered the awards again, to make sure that we are right up there with the best in our region. We entered the Visit Devon Tourism Awards and won both Self-Catering and Dog Friendly Categories and were runners up in Sustainable Tourism. We were awarded the accolade of Winner of Winners at the awards ceremony. We also received the prestigious Rose Award from Visit England for Outstanding Customer Service, one of only 100 businesses selected from over 24,000. At the South West Tourism Excellence Awards we were honoured to receive the award for Outstanding Contribution to Tourism.
In 2016, we were delighted to be recognised as the Best Dog-Friendly Business in England at the Visit England Excellence Awards, our second national gong from Visit England at the ‘Tourism Oscars”.
So, this is our show off page, where we can display our gongs and most importantly thank all the people who have helped us get this far, in particular the thousands of wonderful guests we have met since opening in 2006.
