At Higher Wiscombe we take recycling very seriously indeed and have built a dedicated recycling area to make it as easy as possible for guests to recycle waste.

For food recycling each barn has at least one Green Johanna, these "digest" all food waste, both cooked and uncooked, which means that our guests can put ALL food waste for recycling. These have been augmented by three Green Cones. This means guests have no requirement to seperate food waste into different types, ALL can be "digested".

Secondly, we have a covered recycling area, which is clearly signed. There are four wheelie bins for glass, which does NOT have to be sorted by colour and a large wheelie for clean cardboard. All this waste is collected on a collection run by Bottleman in Beer, a local company.

We also have bins for newspaper and magazines, washed out tins and plastic bottles. We ask for the bottle tops to be removed. We take this waste to the recycling centre.

By following the above we have been able to reduce the amount of rubbish that we have to carry up our three quarters of a mile drive, and that goes directly to landfill, by over 80%. If guests follow the guidelines and put food waste into the bins provided then there is never any bags of rubbish with food in to attract vermin when left for collection.

Most guests are very supportive of this initiative and we are very grateful to them, it is easy to make a difference, even whilst on holiday.
