Septic Tank:

We operate on a septic tank system. This does not use any chemicals as it is a “green system”. It is very important that no chemicals including BLEACH or MILTON or ANTI-BACTERIAL products should be used anywhere, please! This includes Fairy Liquid type cleaners.

We provide ecological washing up liquid, surface cleaner, hand soap (kitchens and loos), dishwasher tablets, loo cleaner and laundry liquid.

Only human waste and toilet paper should be disposed of in the toilet. Only liquids (but not melted fat) should go down the sink waste. Please recycle as follows:

Sanitary items (tampons & towels) condoms. Sanitary bags are provided – please use them.

Disposable nappies, wet wipes, baby wipes, moist toilet tissues. Sanitary bags are provided – please use them.

Babies bottle sterilisers - Where possible please use electric or microwavable bottle sterilisers. Milton has the same effect on the Bio-digester tank as bleach.

Recycling and non recyclabe waste:

With the help of our guests we have managed to recycle an average of over 80% of guest waste. Please help us by recycling wherever possible and buying products with as little packaging as possible. We have a dedicated recycling area to help you recycle as much as possible. In the kitchen you will find some Devon Food and Drink "bags for life". Please use them when shopping and return after use for the next guest.

Glass: Please put glass bottles and jars in the bottle-banks provided.

Paper: Please put all newspaper, magazines and paper in the paper recycling bank at the end of your holiday with us.

Tins: Please rinse out tins, put the lids in the tins and place in a supermarket bag in the bin provided. At the end of your holiday, tie off the bag and place it in the Tins recycling bank. We will separate the steel and aluminium and crush the cans before recycling.

Plastic: Please rinse out plastic milk containers and plastic drink bottles and place in the supermarket bag in the bin provided. Sadly only plastic bottles and milk cartons can be recycled, so no other plastic please.

Cardboard:There is a large wheelie bin in the recycling area for cardboard. Please break down and flatten all boxes before putting in the labelled bin.

Food waste: Please put ALL FOOD WASTE into the caddy provided. When this is full please take and empty into the Green Johanna in your cottage garden. We may also ask you to use the Green Cones on occasions. Please make sure that no packaging gets into the Johannas or Cones. Thanks.

General Waste: There are wheelie bins provided for general rubbish by each cottage. The rubbish must be securely tied in black sacks before putting in the bins provided. Loose rubbish in the wheelie bins is not acceptable and will result in an extra cleaning charge. Thanks.

Please put all rubbish possible into the bins on TUESDAY mornings, as our rubbish collection is on Wednesday very early, thank you.
