Luxury Self Catering - Higher Wiscombe

Higher Wiscombe is at the heart of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to Honiton (A30) and the spectacular Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, with beaches at Beer, Branscombe and Sidmouth.

Higher Wiscombe dates from the early 1800’s when it was the home farm to the Wiscombe Park Estate. Later the farm was owned by Hank Marvin of the Shadows, and more recently operated as an apple winery.

Located at the head of the peaceful Southleigh valley is our spectacular new development of luxurious self catering holiday cottages, lovingly converted from stone barns. The courtyard setting is at the end of a three quarter mile drive in the centre of the extensive grounds of the owners 19th Century farmhouse.

The barns have already won several major awards in their first eighteen months of opening, the Self Catering Holiday of the Year from Enjoy England 2007/8, the Self Catering Holiday of the Year Award for 2006/7 from South West Tourism, a Gold award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme in 2007, having earlier achieved a Silver Award from them in 2006 and we were runners up in the DEBI (Devon Environmental Business Initiative) Sustainable Tourism Awards 2006.

The sympathetically converted barns combine exposed beams and brickwork with high quality new oak kitchens, bathrooms, furniture, and decoration. The water system is pressurized to ensure luxurious showers. All barns have modern en-suite shower rooms and sumptuous roll top bathrooms for that additional pampering.

The light and airy barns at Higher Wiscombe offer panoramic views over the East Devon countryside, and guests can explore our 52-acre grounds, which include woodlands, orchards, pasture and streams with abundant wildlife. We also have a 500-year-old Oak tree that is designated one of the Great Trees of East Devon on our land that forms part of a County Wildlife Site.

We are perfectly situated for the Jurassic Coast, with it’s beaches at Lyme Regis, Beer, Branscombe and Sidmouth, sailing at Exmouth and Lyme Regis and collecting fossils at Charmouth. The East Devon Way can be accessed on foot from our property. It is an excellent base as a touring centre for the West Country within easy reach of numerous National Trust properties, RSPB reserves, Dartmoor, Exmoor, Pecorama and The Heritage Coast Walk.

Upon booking, guests receive details of the best local restaurants and we are able to accept deliveries from Tesco.com. We are near to a Waitrose, a M&S Simply food and local food stores are nearby. On arrival, guests receive a comprehensive information pack on local attractions, take-aways, places of interest and where to buy the best in local and organic food.
